The inspiration for the shoot was this fabulous purple gown I picked up a couple of years ago at a consignment shop. I thought it would look amazing in late-day sun against the golden cliffs in Avila Beach. Brooke agreed to model for me and the gown looked fantastic on her. Ruby created gorgeous makeup and did a messy, unstructured look for her hair which worked so well with the beach setting.

A few times each year, I plan a creative shoot. Something fun for my own enjoyment that will help me learn, grow, and experiment as a photographer. It usually starts with an idea for a location, or with an accessory or garment I'm obsessed with, or an overall mood that I want to capture. Last month everything came together and I did a fashion-inspired shoot at Avila Beach with the gorgeous Brooke. Collaborating with me was amazing hair and makeup artist Ruby Villalobos of Heritage Salon.
