Spring is the time that I start gearing up for senior portrait season. This year I decided to choose two Class of 2020 girls from local high schools to be my senior models. First up is Abby from Arroyo Grande High School. I've known Abby and her family for a few years and I knew her fun (and sometimes silly!) personality that would make her a natural in front of the camera.
My favorite hair and makeup artist, Ruby Villalobos of Heritage Salon in the Arroyo Grande Village contributed her awesome talents for our shoot. I probably sound like a broken record, but well-done professional hair and makeup make such a difference. Ruby has an amazing ability to make my seniors look so gorgeous while still looking like themselves. And the confidence that comes from knowing you look your best really comes across in the images.
I loved this floral lace-sleeved romper from Bella B on Abby. It is flirty and feminine and worked so well with our country/rural location. In fact, all of the elements of this shoot came together so nicely from the outfits and location to the hair and makeup.
Abby....you were an amazing Class of 2020 senior model! Thank you so much for shooting with me. You made it so fun and easy to create these images. I hope your senior year is incredible!!!
I encourage all my senior portrait clients to choose outfits with different colors, textures, and silhouettes to get the best variety of images from their session. Jeans with a simple blouse or even a tee can be a great option for a more casual outfit.
An important part of the senior portrait session planning process is making sure that outfits work well with the location. We shot Abby's model session at beautiful Higuera Ranch in San Luis Obispo, and we specifically chose outfits that were fun, flattering, and casual enough for a rural ranch setting. Abby loved this black floral dress from Bella B so much that she ended up buying it!

I reached out to Bella B, a boutique in downtown San Luis Obispo to see if they would be willing to provide outfits for my senior model shoots. Bella B is a small shop but is packed full of cute and reasonably-priced fashions. It's a GREAT place to shop for senior portrait outfits. Abby and I had fun checking out different outfit possibilities. This pink plaid button-up shirt was so cute paired with Abby's own denim shorts and ankle boots.
