Dancers are trained to make their movement look effortless, but in reality, it takes years of working in the studio many hours each week to develop proper ballet technique. Grace is an amazing dancer who combines strong technique and athleticism with gorgeous artistry. She is an absolute pleasure to photograph!
There's something very freeing about shooting a dancer outdoors as opposed to on-stage or in the studio. The flattering light, the wind in her hair, and the magnificent natural scenery add such beauty and drama to the images. I'm looking forward to more dancer collaborations in the future!
Grace takes class at SLO Movement Arts Center and is a member of the Movement Arts Collective dance company. She is also a brand ambassador for Covet Dance and Audition Dancewear.
Pairing a beautiful outdoor location with a stunning dancer can result in amazing images! Here on the central coast of California we have no shortage of spectacular locations, such as Pismo Beach. And I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with talented dancer Grace Phillips.

Pismo Beach provided so many great backdrops for our October shoot. In addition to the shore and rugged cliffs, there was a cave which provided dramatic light that simulated an in-studio shoot. And the temperature was mild and pleasant for our late-afternoon session.
